That’s her motto… Meet Tammy Johnson Smith, a seasoned legal professional with an impressive range of experience and proven success to conquer anything in the courtroom. Tammy has successfully resolved hundreds of family law cases, including cases involving child custody/visitation, support, and property division. She has successfully represented many grandparents in custody cases. She is a trained mediator, arbitrator, and active member of the community. Tammy is also one of the few attorneys in this area trained and experienced in collaborative law.
Amongst her many accolades, she was recognized as Prosecutor of the Year for the Carolinas and has appeared as a featured guest on The Closing Bell, the national show broadcast daily from the floor of the NY Stock Exchange. Outside of her day job, Tammy has chaired several funding literacy and hunger initiatives. She believes strongly in supporting her community. Her clients love her because she’s reliable, confident, and fair.
After receiving her Bachelor degree in Art, English, and Psychology, from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her law degree from Campbell School of Law, Tammy started her legal career in private practice representing clients in the areas of criminal, personal injury, and family law. For the past five years, Tammy has led the Financial Crimes Initiative prosecuting financial crimes across the state of North Carolina. Now, Tammy is pursuing her passion and calling to practice family law as a partner with Miller & Smith Law Firm.
With a personal connection to Autism through a close family friend, Tammy understands the importance of fighting for every child’s right to an education that supports their learning. This is why she is happy to offer her services to parents navigating the challenging educational system to make sure their child’s IEP is followed and their child has a positive learning environment.
Tammy strongly believes that family law matters should be amicably resolved, if at all possible. This philosophy is founded on her personal observations as a wife and mother. Tammy is keenly aware of the potential biases facing parents in today's social and judicial systems. She is of the opinion that a client’s best interests are served by providing the client with an honest assessment of his or her case and she strives to obtain a fair and equitable result in all matters. Yet if a matter cannot be resolved without litigation, Tammy is certainly an experienced trial attorney with an impressive courtroom presence.
Born in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, Tammy resides in Holly Springs with her husband Jon and their two sons, Liam and Jack. Her outside interests includes photography, spending time at the pool, and trips to the beach.
